The best surf camp in Cabarete
Nice title huh?
Well clearly we think so, and it’s good to see that our clients that have been visiting us in the last 8 months agree with us. The reviews of Swell Cabarete Surf camp have been great, we hear the feedback from the clients when they are with us [...]
I read somewhere recently that a family that surfs together stays together. That might be true, but I think it also matters where you stay on your surf holiday together!
If you stay someplace with uncomfortable beds, bad food , surfboard and everything outdated, then the family might not stay together that long on their surf [...]
Exciting times here in Cabarete:
It’s summer and that mean the tradewinds are blowing everyday. on average 20 knots in the afternoon, this means plenty of kitesurfers in the Bay of Cabarete.
Starting on the 16th of June the PKRA Cabarete kitesurf world cup is held right here at Cabarete’s main beach, Bozo. I will be cheering [...]
The last 2 weeks have been very very good here in Cabarete for learning to surf: extreme glassy mornings with nice peeling waves in the Chest to head high range.
A typical day at Swell:
Every morning our clients get up at 6.00 ( if they want), have a quick snack and fresh coffee to go, head [...]
Learn to surf at our surf school in Cabarete, Encuentro.
It’s the middle of April now and the big wave season has ended, so does that mean that the surf season has ended?
No!
For beginners and intermediate surfers the fun begins now. With waves between waist and head high on average for the next 4 months, [...]
Last weekend we had the master of the Ocean competition here in Cabarete.
Marcus Bohm organized the event for the 8th time, and always with great success: it’s puts Cabarete on the map as an all round water sport paradize: Kitesurf, windsurf and surf all within a 3 mile radius.
The wind didn’t full cooperate, which is [...]
It’s not just surfing here at Swell Surf Camp in Cabarete, we also cater for people learning to wind or kitesurf, especially for the later cabarete has become the learn to kite surf destination.

2 very epic kitesurfing days here in Cabarete:
Strong wind and solid 2,5 overhead waves created the perfect setting for a photoshoot of Luciano Gonzalez riding strapless on a surfboard at Encuentro, the local surf spot here in Cabarete.
How big was it?
How was Luciano Gonzalez handling those waves…………. very well………why? Because he is one of the [...]

Happy new year!
2009 was a great year here in Cabarete, 2010 is going to be even better. 2009 was mostly about building the best surf camp in cabarete ( or the Caribbean ), and 2010 is all about the clients having a good time at Swell surf Camp in Cabarete, learning to surf at Swell’s [...]
First of, a big thanks to the great clients who chose to stay at Swell Surf camp in the last weeks. Both Brian’s that stayed at our surf camp in Cabarete were hilariously funny and great guys. There were Nick and Sam, very nice and easygoing guys. Mats, Radu, Tora, Jonathan, Cam are still [...]
Ok, so we are now officially open. The Plan was to open Swell Cabarete surf camp just for friends and family for the first few weeks. However since we were getting lots of inquiries from clients that insisted that they wanted to stay with us ( can’t blame them) we took them in.
Now, the first [...]
Swell Surf camp Cabarete has opened it’s hotel doors
So here it is: the project top create the most social and comfortable hotel in Cabarete has been completed succesfully. Swell is open.
Have a look at some of the pictures in case you have any doubt about our new surf camp:
Encuentro is the main surf spot here for the Cabarete area.
I don’t surf there that much, I prefer surfing alone or with only a few others in the water. Not that Encuentro is a crowded spot, but it usually does have more than 10 people in the water.
However Encuentro is one of the most consistent [...]

Here’s the first panoramic pictures of our new surf camp in Cabarete.
As you can see the construction hasn’t finished yet, but it’s coming pretty close.
This week should see the main communal area being finished so the kitchen and all the furniture can move in.
Reservations are coming in nicely, even though we haven’t been able to [...]
Grass is going into the surf camp garden now. All the windows are fitted and next week, all the bathroom equipment will be in.
This afternoon, we take delivery of another big container of furniture, etc. More and more enquiries to deal with each day – it looks like Christmas may already be pretty full!
We are [...]
Some strong wind came from nowhere yesterday – we both went out. Me on a directional board and a 9m kite – should have taken a 7 as I was hanging on for dear life and Jim went windsurfing.
The kiter doing the board-off transition in the photo is one of the world’s top riders. Jan [...]
So, yesterday after a ‘phone call from the Freight Co., Jim and I went to the camp to take a look at what had arrived in terms of furniture and fittings for our new hotel.
