It’s a good time to be in Cabarete

Quick update on what’s been going on here at Swell Surf camp:

First off, very happy to see lots of return guests at Swell in the next month.

Norm, as usual has brought the wind back with him; one of the luckiest men when it comes to picking the right time versus conditions in Cabarete, he’s back for the 5th time. Daniel’s already here for his 2nd visit and right now is on the beach taking a kite lessons with Luciano. Chris arrives for his 3rd visit in a few days and following him will be Joanne, Jamie, Pat, Danielle, Stan, Jeanne and also a lot of brand new guests joining the ever-growing Swell family. Everyone is welcome!

The surf has been good, consistent fun waves; ranging from shoulder to double over head.

We had some epic sessions at out favourite spot:

Morgan, our Australian client got a lot of good waves this day.

Martha, the excellent manager at Swell also caught some good right handers

And even I caught a few good lefts.

Now, not meaning to upset any of our North American friends, some more snow storms across the US would be welcome, as they often turn into a great North swell for us here in the Dominican Republic.

Spaces at Swell Surf camp are filling up quickly

Just a quick note for all you people that are looking to join us in the DR this winter for a unique surf holiday ; be quick, lots of weeks are already fully booked.

Since we can only fit 24 people maximum in our purpose built surf camp in Cabarete, Dominican Republic, spots fill up quickly, sometimes months in advance.

Thinking about joining our surf camp for xmass? Make that 2012 since that weeks has been fully booked for months. That doesn’t mean that everything is all fully booked from januari till april, however to avoid disappointment , it’s best not to wait much longer to join us.

Happy new year!

2009 was a great year here in Cabarete, 2010 is going to be even better. 2009 was mostly about building the best surf camp in cabarete ( or the Caribbean ), and 2010 is all about the clients having a good time at Swell surf Camp in Cabarete, learning to surf at Swell’s surf school at Encuentro, learning to kitesurf / windsurf or any other active extreme sport that Cabarete has to offer.

We had a great batch of clients stay with us at Swell, in fact we were fully booked, which we are very happy about, since the more people stay at our new surf hotel, the better the vibe and socialising is.
How good is the vibe ?

What we were doing? Drinking and then Jane taught us how to line and square dance. It was laughter all over the place.

It’s great to see that all the guests get along so well; A hostel vibe with the comforts of a hotel

The surf?
The surf has been all time, firing, consistent,. head high place and many all day glassy days.
We took the clients to a spot out of town, and scored. No one else out, head high and glassy, can you imagine a better xmass?

Dinner has been a great social event in Cabarete’s most private ( and exclusive ) restaurant

I think the above pictures prove that if you are an active person looking for a great surf holiday in the Caribbean, then Swell surf camp is the best choice…. guaranteed.

Here’s the first panoramic pictures of our new surf camp in Cabarete.
As you can see the construction hasn’t finished yet, but it’s coming pretty close.

This week should see the main communal area being finished so the kitchen and all the furniture can move in.

Reservations are coming in nicely, even though we haven’t been able to show the guests exactly where they are going to be staying. They trust us when we see it’s going to be a unique, comfortable and social place to stay.

Surfing Cabarete

It’s been pretty descent here as far as the surfing in Cabarete goes. Nothing epic but descent head high waves were found at Cabarete’s main surfing spot Encuentro every day.
Clare’s son drew has been really getting into his surfing lately, and here’s some surf shots

if he continues like this he might actually be the fist swell cabarete surf camp’s sponsored rider. In fact he already is, he’s got 20 t-shirts, about 50 stickers and uses all of Swell’s new surfboards

Should be more head high waves this week, and by the end of next week there’s a good North swell arriving that should give us some good overhead clean waves here in Cabarete.

Here are the pool lights – the pool is finished and being filled today – they are magical! When there is water in the pool, these fiber-optic lights n will sparkle through the moving water and appear like stars on the surface. Opposite these star lights, will be 4 gradually colour-changing spots lights

SUP Dominican Republic

Just came back from an excellent SUp ( stand up paddle surfing ) session at our ‘semi’ secret spot.

It was excellent. Glassy, head high and very long rides. My surfing buddie came out and was the first to test the new naish 11’6” SUP that we will be using for the Swell cabarete Surf camp.

He seemed to really like the board since he was catching plenty of good long rides with it. I was out with the 11’4” Naish SUP and also caught a good bunch of waves.

The forecast looks good for the rest of the week as well, for all sports: Surfing will be good for at least 5 days the coming week. SUP every day of the week, and the kite and windsurfers should also be happy with a good 18-25 knots wind forecast here in Cabarete.

Tha’s why Swell Surf camp here in the Dominican republic is your ultimate boarders paradise for all watersports.

This evening, I finished placing the order for the new caribbean surf camp furniture, kitchen, fittings, lighting, crockery, lounge chairs, etc etc. 18 hours in Ikea, Sunrise Miami + about 12 hours ordering on line and speaking with the freight-forwarding company and I am ready to relax – or should I say drop……..maybe into one of these great chairs we ordered………

I am so happy with the outcome of this shopping trip and mainly for the help that a lovely guy called Charles Wing (Ikea Business) gave me in placing the order. Ikea is based on a self-service principle, but quite honestly, I would have filled up about 40 shopping carts or more with the stuff that I’ve bought in that 18 hour marathon.

I cannot wait to see all the cool things in place in the hostel; budget does not mean ‘crap’ anymore and Swell Surf Camp in the Dominican Republic is about to set a whole new standard in budget accommodation.
