family surf holiday

I read somewhere recently that a family that surfs together stays together. That might be true, but I think it also matters where you stay on your surf holiday together!
If you stay someplace with uncomfortable beds, bad food , surfboard and everything outdated, then the family might not stay together that long on their surf holiday.

Or do you want to have a comfortable surf holiday with nice beds, clean surroundings and have surf lessons from an instructor that actually knows how to surf (in fact surfs very well)?

OK, in the last paragraph I am talking about our place and the first example, well a few people in this town know who I am referring to.

Here’s some pictures we took this morning of our guests, most of them went surfing. Some of them are already very experienced, some of them are completely new to the sport of surfing. One thing they had in common, they all had a blast.
The waves were small today at Encuentro, but it was glassy, not very crowded , warm, and mostly sunny, until one cloud came and brought spectacular rain and rainbow with it.

More fun summer surf on the way this week, Swell is pretty much fully booked for the next weeks, so should be very good vibes and hopefully some good waves for the surfers and some wind in the afternoon for the kitesurfers.

Happy new year!

2009 was a great year here in Cabarete, 2010 is going to be even better. 2009 was mostly about building the best surf camp in cabarete ( or the Caribbean ), and 2010 is all about the clients having a good time at Swell surf Camp in Cabarete, learning to surf at Swell’s surf school at Encuentro, learning to kitesurf / windsurf or any other active extreme sport that Cabarete has to offer.

We had a great batch of clients stay with us at Swell, in fact we were fully booked, which we are very happy about, since the more people stay at our new surf hotel, the better the vibe and socialising is.
How good is the vibe ?

What we were doing? Drinking and then Jane taught us how to line and square dance. It was laughter all over the place.

It’s great to see that all the guests get along so well; A hostel vibe with the comforts of a hotel

The surf?
The surf has been all time, firing, consistent,. head high place and many all day glassy days.
We took the clients to a spot out of town, and scored. No one else out, head high and glassy, can you imagine a better xmass?

Dinner has been a great social event in Cabarete’s most private ( and exclusive ) restaurant

I think the above pictures prove that if you are an active person looking for a great surf holiday in the Caribbean, then Swell surf camp is the best choice…. guaranteed.

Weather and construction update

The weather here in Cabarete has been a bit odd the last week. Sunny and very warm one moment and the next it’s pooting down rain and windy.
Not exactly ideal conditions for either kite wind or wave surfing.
Then again it is May, and usually we do get some ‘strange’ weather.
Also looks like there’s a bit of a North east Swell coming in starting tomorrow, so that should bring some good surfing conditions.

Welcome

The new Swell Surf Camp website is now online and can be seen here , and we thought we’d add a blog to keep you up to date on everything that is Swell Surf Camp related, like the construction (for now) special events, special prices, pictures etc.

Construction on Swell Surf camp was started about 8 weeks ago, and the progress that the builder has made so far is phenomenal. They are basically putting the first floor roof up this week.
Since the launch, our website has “won” 2 web design awards from CSS drive and Unmatched Style which I , as the designer, am very pleased about. Clare gets equal amount of credit for giving good feedback during the design process as well as being a great text writer.
Clare and myself have started doing paddle surfing here (SUP), since that’s a sport we also want to promote at Swell Surf camp. We found it a great sport and also realise that cabarete is an ideal spot for it. Muscles have been sore form it the last 2 days, but we are definitely going to continue.

Now I am going to make sure that this Blog gets a good look and then Clare will probablly take over, since she has turned into the inhouse blogging expert and can write way better than I can.
