So, yesterday after a ‘phone call from the Freight Co., Jim and I went to the camp to take a look at what had arrived in terms of furniture and fittings for our new hotel.

After almost 5 hours of back-breaking and sweaty work, we had unloaded 4 very large pallets of items and checked the contents of 22 more boxes. Driving backwards and forwards between Ocean One and Swell we have stored many of the items in the garage of a good friend of mine who was kind enough to offer (thanks Claire).

Nest Tuesday, I am told that the rest of our shipment will arrive.

Things are moving very quickly at the camp now; there’s a team of 25 or more people working there on electrics, plastering, etc. We are always impressed by how hard working the Haitian men are – they are mixing cement by hand all day long. It’s amazing; standing right in the sunshine and bending for hours on end. Right now, the air temperature is around 100 degrees – we don’t know how they do that and stay so cheerful.; respect.

Now, we are just getting ready to go out and meet friends on the beach for dinner at one of the restaurants right on the beach and dine with our feet in the sand

A brief lie-in this morning was followed by the 2nd session with Trigger Point therapy specialist Maria LaTravese. I floated between periods of intense discomfort and sheer joy at the fact that she has found the root of my 2 year old back problem – trying to breathe hard through the most intense parts. I walked in there in pain and left feeling a whole lot better. No, it won’t be a quick fix; years of not taking enough care with my stretching, coupled with old injuries which went untreated for the most part, have left us with a big job to do. However, it was seeing a specialist in the UK who told me I would not get better if I did not tackle the issue whole-heartedly which made me finally sit up and take notice. With Maria, you have to change every aspect of your posture, breathing, sitting, walking, even the way your jaw moves and I am working very hard on it, determined that my days of constant pain will soon be over. Jim also ended up going to see her today with a significant neck problem and now he will also be returning to her next week.

For tomorrow’s spinning class, I have devised an intense 28 min stretching routine to help my members also begin to take the stretching part of exercise more seriously. For the surf camp, we are considering holding special surf-stretching clinics to help with injury rehabiliation and/or injury prevention. Please let us know what you think in the comments section of this Blog; just click on the ‘comments’ circled below right.

Hasta pronto, Clare
