A Swell surf Experience

A surf camp in paradise

Swell offers a Luxury Surf Camp experience on the North coast of the Domincian Republic.

We cater for people who have never surfed before or are intermediate surfers that need surf lessons or coaching.
Besides the surfing, there’s Yoga on offer at Swell 3 x per week.

When we started Swell in 2009 we didn’t convert an old  villa into a surf camp , we went to award winning architects to design a purpose built luxury surf camp / surf retreat.  At the heart of our surf retreat is a large open communal area where we have meals together, socialise and give theory surf lessons.

Arrive as a guest, leave as a friend

Swell is like a warm embrace; you’ll immediately feel at home. It has a uniquely relaxed vibe and by the very nature of their choice to come to Swell, our guests are naturally compatible: This is key to the welcoming and friendly spirit of our surf retreat.

Breakfasts and dinners are shared together around our huge dining table. Guests can chill out on our sofas or over-sized bean bags, shoot some pool, play some cards or watch some movies. You’ll feel like you are part of a really fun, extended family.

If you want some ‘me time,’ go and relax in one of our hammocks slung beneath the palm trees in our tropical garden.

yoga & Surfing

Accessible for all levels

Surfing and Yoga are a match made in heaven and it`s no accident that the two pair-up so well.

Pre-surf stretching has been a vital part of surfing since forever: You’ll never see a surfer enter the water without doing some stretching first. Using limbs in a way that is alien to most other daily activities or sports can take its toll, even on bodies whose owners consider themselves to be quite fit ordinarily.

What Our Guests Have to Say

Best week ever! My best friend and I recently spent a week at Swell. We both felt that it was one of the best weeks of our lives! One of my most favourite trips I have ever been on. Everything was amazing! The rooms are spacious and clean. The food prepared at Swell is delicious and they catered to me being a vegetarian. The grounds are so magnificently kept.

Everything I Needed and More Than I Expected! I can’t identify many things wrong with Swell. All members of the staff are kind, enthusiastic, and genuinely want to take good care of you. The housekeepers/cooks are some of the hardest working women I’ve ever met, and the meals they cook will make you go weak in the knees. I never once felt like I was in anything other than great hands while at Swell. Surf Instructions was awesome. I’ll be back

All around wonderful… Hands down, an incredible trip. I stayed at Swell for 7 days and couldn’t have designed a better experience. The instruction, food, fellow travelers, and options for other adventure were all fantastic. – As a beginner surfer I wanted solid instruction in warm water with enough surt time opportunity to learn. The “on-water” instruction was thorough and great fun.

Incredible place, even better people.. can’t wait to go back This is one of the only vacations I’ve been on where I was looking for dates for my next trip before I even left the airport. It was my first solo-trip and I had no idea what to expect. I read reviews (just like you’re probably doing right now) and while reassuring, words can’t explain how much fun you’ll have and how at home you’ll feel.

Amazing two weeks, love Swell and the people i met! Really awesome holiday, the camp is great with homely rooms and really comfortable beds and very clean (rooms cleaned everyday just like a hotel). As you will read on other reviews the food really is amazing and you eat a lot of it but you will come home in better shape than when you went away! I wasn’t sure if i would get a bit bored staying in one place on my own for two weeks but there was no chance of that, after two morning surf sessions chilling in the Swell garden by the pool or down by the beach is a pretty welcome activity.

  • “Think of Swell as the anti-surf camp. There’s plenty of surfing, of course, but the similarities to other surf camps end there. For starters, the rooms are stylish — more boutique surf retreat than reggae-loving surfer digs. Then there are the legendary breakfasts (omelets, pancakes and crepes, fresh-squeezed orange juice, and fruit bowls). Structured surf lessons take place each morning, with an instructor alongside you and the head surf coach watching from shallow water, ready to offer learn to surf tips between riding waves. If you are serious about learning to surf, then Swell should be on top of your destination list. Highly recommended!

Designed with the discerning surfer in mind, Swell is far from a crash pad. The spare clean lines, plush bedding, modern photographs and funky furniture say ‘boutique surf retreat’ but the pool, ping-pong and foosball tables and social vibe suggest otherwise. A huge wood communal table is the center of the hanging-out action, after all the surfing is done. Highly recommended!
