Swell Dinners

We cook 3 dinners each week at Swell, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays (and they're already included in your surf vacation package).  But don't worry about when we are not preparing dinner at the camp as there are a ton of good places to eat within a very short walk of Swell, many are right on the beach!

We prepare our weekly menu according to what's fresh at the market. You'll be able to watch the chefs, Esmeralda, Arecelys and Syriana, preparing all your food right under your nose. Meals are served buffet style and guests sit around our huge dining table at the heart of the camp to enjoy it.

You'll get to experience the delicious, authentic Dominican dishes we prepare frequently at Swell.

Dominican food is so rich and tasty, you really can`t say that you have been to the Dominican Republic without having tried this wonderful, traditional food. Dominican dinners are our most requested meal! You may also find Chicken and Pineapple curry, Lasagne, fresh fish of the day and lots more delicious dishes on our weekly menu; Haudy our manager is a real foodie.

Dinner always includes salad or vegetables, plus rice or potatoes and dessert to follow.

If you are a Vegetarian or Vegan, or have a gluten intolerance, no problem, just let us know in advance of your surf vacation with us. Any other dietary restriction, contact us to see what your options are.

SOME QUICK QUESTIONS

I’M VEGETARIAN, VEGAN, GLUTEN-INTOLERANT, CAN YOU HANDLE MY DIET

Whilst we do not have a team of chefs to cater to every whim, we are well used to catering for vegetarians, vegans and people with other food intolerances. We have a wide variety of ingredients to choose from and will always try our very best to cater for your needs if you tell us in advance, so just send us an email to see what your options are. We are unable to buy specialist gluten-free ingredients but we are sure you will not go hungry!

IS THERE A BAR?

We have a lovely honesty-system of self-service drinks at Swell: Guests help themselves to fairly-priced beers, sodas, wine, etc. from our drinks fridge and then they write those drinks on their own tab, paying at the end of your stay. You are welcome to bring in your own spirits and use the ice from our fridge to mix some killer-drinks! We have a plastic-free policy at the camp, so we limit our drinks for sale to those which can be re-cycled.

CAN I COOK MY OWN FOOD AT THE SURF CAMP?

No you cannot use the Swell kitchen at any time for preparation of food, nor use our fridge to store your food. If you wish to self -cater, Swell surf camp is not the right place for you. But, if you want to be looked after with truly delicious food (there’s a good reason why our guests have asked for a Swell surf camp recipe book to be published), and be within a few meters walk of a whole bunch of other great restaurants for when we are not cooking, then do choose us for your surf vacation.

ABOUT SWELL

About Swell :

After living in the Dominican Republic for 8 years and loving the great outdoor watersport lifestyle, Jeroen (from the Netherlands) and Clare (for the UK) decided it was time to share their knowledge of the Dominican Republic all that this stunning country has to offer with visitors from around the world.

Clare and Jeroen were already familiar with surf retreats, resorts and surf camps in many different countries and having had to stay in some very ordinary surf hotel accommodation in their quest for great surfing waves, they knew that there was something missing in the surf  market; a place which was still social, but offering better quality accommodation, great food, nicer beds, cleaner rooms: A stylish, luxury surf camp retreat. They set about designing the kind of place they would want to stay in themselves.

The world’s first Luxury surf camp

So they hired a renowned Swiss architect for one purpose: to come up with the world’s first purpose-built, luxury surf camp.

Since opening in winter 2009/2010 Swell surf instructors have taught 1000’s of people how to surf in a safe, fun and structured manner. Since opening, Swell has won multiple awards and has 100’s of excellent reviews from happy guests. Swell continues to be one of the top destinations for couples, groups and solo travellers to go to as the #1 luxury surf holiday.

It’s not just surfing on offer at Swell; You can learn to kitesurf, take yoga classes, go horse riding on the beach or in the mountains and enjoy some truly spectacular outdoor adventure trips like canyoning for example.

With great food being such an important part of anyone’s surf vacation, Swell delivers there too; with superb home-cooked food at the camp and on the evenings when guests go out to dinner, a large choice of restaurants offering a comprehensive choice of dining are all within a few minutes walk.

In 2022 A new Swell Bali Surf Camp has opened its doors in Bingin, Bali. Located in the Uluwatu area its known around the surfing community as one of the best places in the world for surfers of all levels.

  • Think of Swell as the anti-surf camp. There’s plenty of surfing, of course, but the similarities to other surf camps end there. For starters, the rooms are stylish — more boutique surf hotel than reggae-loving surfer digs. Then there are the legendary breakfasts (omelets, pancakes and crepes, fresh-squeezed orange juice, and fruit bowls). Structured surf lessons take place each morning, with an instructor alongside you and the head surf coach watching from shallow water, ready to offer learn to surf tips between riding waves. If you are serious about learning to surf, then Swell should be on top of your destination list. Highly recommended!

    [Frommer’s Travel Guides]

Designed with the discerning surfer in mind, Swell Surf Camp is far from a crash pad. The spare clean lines, plush bedding, modern photographs and funky furniture say ‘boutique surf retreat’ but the pool, ping-pong and foosball tables and social vibe suggest otherwise. A huge wood communal table is the center of the hanging-out action, after all the surfing is done. Highly recommended!
