SOME QUICK QUESTIONS

WHAT IS THE AVERAGE AGE?

The average age of people traveling to swell for a surf camp holiday varies per week, but generally speaking, the people that come to Swell on a surf holiday are aged between 25 and 55. That’s not to say that in certain weeks there are more people in their 20’s than 40’s (or the other way around). Also, we have had people in their 60 on a Swell learn how to surf course.

Most clients are from the USA, Canada, and Europe, and 80% of them are working professionals who want the comforts of a Surfing & Yoga retreat combined with the social aspect of a surf resort.
Here is a screenshot of the last bookings at Swell to give you an idea of the age and the solo travelers versus groups.

age of surf camp guests

As you can see the average age is around 40 years old.

ON WHICH DAY SHOULD I ARRIVE?

At Swell we don’t have a fixed arrival day. We realise flight prices can change day by day, so you are free to arrive any day of the week at Swell.

I’M A BEGINNER SURFER, WHEN IS BEST FOR ME TO COME?

If you are a complete beginner surfer, you have the best choice; here in the Dominican Republic, where we teach our surf lessons, there are very few days of the year where you wouldn’t be able to surf as a beginner. This means that the whole year is open for you to take lessons as our surfing lessons are undertaken on the ‘inside’ of the reef (so you are protected from larger waves whenever there is a swell running).

HOW DO I BOOK A SURF HOLIDAY WITH YOU?

Booking a surf holiday with Swell is easy. Send us a message through our form with your dates and the activities you would like to do, whilst staying at Swell Surf & Yoga Retreat and we’ll get back to you in minutes with a detailed price and availability quote.

If you want to secure your spot with us, a deposit is required so we can book you in.

Payment is easily done online via our 128-bit encrypted payment page. A Swell Surf Holiday can only be booked directly through us, we do not sell rooms or packages on any other websites!

CAN I STAY LONGER / SHORTER THAN 7 DAYS?

Staying longer at a Swell Surf Vacation is not a problem, we get a lot of returning clients that do not like the cold weather in their home countries during the winter, and stay at Swell Surf Camp for several weeks.

Even during our wintertime, you do not ever have to wear a wetsuit, the water is warm, and leave your warm clothes at home too, just bring plenty of sunscreen.

Staying shorter is also possible, although the minimum stay most of the year is 4 nights. At Swell we do not have a set arrival date, so see what flights are available, send us a message and join us for a surf holiday with like-minded adults.

I HAVE DIETARY RESTRICTIONS

Whilst we do not have a team of chefs to cater to every whim, we are well used to catering for vegetarians, vegans and people with other food intolerances. We have a wide variety of ingredients to choose from and will always try our very best to cater for your needs if you tell us in advance, so just send us an email to see what your options are.

IS THIS A WOMAN SURF & YOGA RETREAT

No, at Swell we are open to all; men and woman are welcome to join us for a unique Caribbean Retreat

Awesome Loved the camp and people working there. Everyone was very friendly and genuinely cared for you having a great time. The accommodations are smartly designed and well run so you have everything you need and more. Clean, thoughtful and beautiful. The food was always fresh and delicious. The camp manager Haudy was so welcoming that I've got a feeling as I am visiting my extended family :).
Learning surfing was of course the best part :).
Starting from zero I dint expect much. Thankfully, I've got very lucky to have an incredible coach, Luciano Gonzalez. He is a professional world renown water sports champion for many years. His level of knowledge and expertise is far above of any advance level surfing. Luciano was able to congest and simplify technics to allow me progress in unbelievably short time. I am extremely thankful to my coach Luciano and entire Swell team. Looking forward coming back

We had a great time learning to surf with Neno and the gang as total beginners. The rooms look like the photos and the food they cook is phenomenal. 10/10 would come again!

  • Think of Swell as the anti-surf camp. There’s plenty of surfing, of course, but the similarities to other surf camps end there. For starters, the rooms are stylish — more boutique surf retreat than reggae-loving surfer digs. Then there are the legendary breakfasts (omelets, pancakes and crepes, fresh-squeezed orange juice, and fruit bowls). Structured surf lessons take place each morning, with an instructor alongside you and the head surf coach watching from shallow water, ready to offer learn to surf tips between riding waves. If you are serious about learning to surf, then Swell should be on top of your destination list. Highly recommended!

Designed with the discerning surfer in mind, Swell is far from a crash pad. The spare clean lines, plush bedding, modern photographs and funky furniture say ‘boutique surf retreat’ but the pool, ping-pong and foosball tables and social vibe suggest otherwise. A huge wood communal table is the center of the hanging-out action, after all the surfing is done. Highly recommended!
