  • WHY IS SWELL MORE EXPENSIVE THAN (SOME) OTHER PLACES?

We already know we are not the cheapest Surf & Yoga holiday available in the Dominican Republic; we don't try to be.  Actually, we are far cheaper than most retreats in Costa Rica, for example.  We do understand that plenty of people are on a budget and still really want to stay with us, so check dates 6+ months in advance to get the lower rates.

Our pricing is the result of our commitment to provide a high-quality experience for our guests: Healthy, fresh, tasty food, a great location, high-quality surf lessons from experienced surf instructors, nice beds with Egyptian cotton sheets and 24/7 onsite staff.  Speaking of staff, we have an incredible team, most of whom have worked with Swell for 13+ years.  We  provide a good working environment and pay our staff well,  As with all good things in life, quality costs more. We also include taxes and fees in our prices, so there are no surprises.  If these are the things you also value, you are going to love Swell.

  • HOW FAR IN ADVANCE DO I HAVE TO BOOK?

It really depends.  It's definitely true that the earlier you book, the better the rate as our pricing is dynamic.  We only reward early bookers and we never offer last minute deals because we don't feel it fair on those who have paid a higher rate.

Some of our most popular dates fill up months in advance, whilst other weeks still might have a spot available a week before departure.  If a date in our calendar shows the color green, it's available, but please note that it doesn't represent the number of available rooms: There may be only one room left, but it will still show as green.

  • I'M ON A BUDGET; HOW DO I GET THE LOWEST PRICE?

Prices change week by week.  'High-season' is generally November through to April.  'Mid-season' months are July, August and October.  'Low' season months are May and June, but it doesn't mean that they are not great months to learn to surf.  High season is only busier because the Caribbean is more popular for sunshine in North America and Europe's colder winter months.  The Dominican Republic, unlike Costa Rica, does not have a wet season and our summer months, June, July and August are actually the driest.  It's arguably easier to learn to surf and progress into green waves when the waves are smaller and that's May through October.  Our pricing is dynamic; as the week fills up, rate rise automatically.  If your dates are flexible, run a few different searches. For the very best rate, book 6+ months ahead. If you are waiting for a last-minute deal, you will be disappointed as our pricing policy is to reward early bookers and not to under-sell guests who have paid more for their stay.
